A Brief Overview of the iPhone 4 Product Launch in 2010

Back in January rumors started to spread about the new iPhone Apple would be releasing. Probably somebody inside Apple leaked some information to a reporter and the news went viral. The big technology blogs started to write about what they believed would be different in Apple’s latest revolutionary product. A little later, computer magazines picked up on the rumors and started to write about this new product from Apple, generating even more buzz and awareness in the general public. When the mainstream media started to publish articles about Apples latest product, people started to talk even more about this new iPhone and the news went viral.

Apple is not revealing much information about their new products before they are released. I do not know how the information became public, but I am confident it was not a mistake, since Apple had launched several products to this date and they know for sure what they are doing.

In April Apple lost an iPhone. The young software engineer named Gary Powell forgot the new iPhone at a bar, a guy picked up the phone and tried to find the iPhone owner but without luck, later the phone was sold to gizmodo.com and later returned to Gary Powell.

The lost phone episode was probably not an intentional strategic move from Apple. However, it worked out for Apples advantage, because now the big blogs and the world’s media press wrote about this lost iPhone and showed pictures of the brand new revolutionary product from Apple.

On June 7^th on the WWDC 2010 conference; The Apple Wordwide Developers Conference 2010, Steve Jobs gave a keynote speech about the new iPhone and revealed what was going to be different and improved.

This was 8 days before Apple started to take preorders on this new gadget. The speech was recorded and posted on Apple’s website for anybody to watch, and once again people are full of anticipation and excitement for this new iPhone to hit the market place.

In mid-June some press release is published and the blogosphere are still raving about the new iPhone 4 upcoming launch.

The press releases are not revolutionary news, probably just a great way to keep the buzz going about the new iPhone and keep it in front of the media.

Whether or not this was intentional or not it worked like crazy. Apple sold 600.000 units in preorders. Factors like social proof and scarcity was using as well, these mental triggers will be discuss in a later blogpost. Bottom line is that it works and you can imitate the process for your home based business and create short videos you release, perhaps one every 3 days instead of trying to sell your prospect at the initial contact.
